Baggage claim + graduation = one big leadership lesson
This past week, I had the joy of traveling to celebrate the high school graduations of some remarkable young people in my life. (Congratulations to Tyler, Chase, and Ben!)
Across every ceremony I attended, one message came through again and again - from principals, teachers, and student speakers alike:
The next step might be unknown, but we don’t have to go it alone
That message stayed with me. And as I found myself with plenty of time to think (thank you, TSA lines and baggage claims), I realized how true it is—not just for new graduates, but for new leaders, too.
Like graduation, moving into leadership is a big step—exciting, a little overwhelming, full of possibility. It can feel like stepping into the unknown.
Even when you've prepared and worked hard to earn that new role, the unknowns show up quickly:
- How will my former coworker respond to me as their manager?
- Am I really ready for all this responsibility?
- What happens when I have to make a really tough call?
- What if I get it wrong?
Just like a new graduate, you can feel lost and overwhelmed. Your support systems may shift and it’s easy to believe that now you have to figure it all out yourself. It can feel lonely. Everyone else seems confident, while you're quietly wondering if you’re the only one struggling.
But you’re not the only one.
(Seriously—I’ve been there too.)
That’s why building a supportive community is especially important for women stepping into leadership. There’s power in connecting with others on the same journey. When we share our challenges and celebrate our wins, we grow faster, lead stronger, and avoid the burnout that often comes from trying to "do it all" in isolation.
That’s what drives me to create spaces where women leaders can connect—through events, webinars, and group coaching. It’s important to have a vibrant network of supporters, mentors, advisors, and cheerleaders so that we can thrive as leaders. And with that foundation, we’re not just better leaders—we become the support system for the next generation, too.
If you're looking for that kind of community, I’d love to invite you in.

Wherever you are on your journey, I hope you’re reminded today:
You don’t have to go it alone.
